Columbus Students Read With Local Heroes
On June 13, Columbus Elementary welcomed local first responders for its first-ever “Read With a Hero Day.” Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, military personnel, and therapy dogs from the Utica Police Department and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office joined classrooms to read to students and share stories.
The event provided students with a unique opportunity to connect with community heroes in a positive and memorable way. Thank you to all who participated—and to school social worker Christina Vomer for organizing a day filled with books, smiles, and inspiration.
