The CTE Construction program recently partnered with the Drama Club to help bring the set of The Little Mermaid to life. When the props crew needed help building two major elements (the base and cross member of the ship’s mast and the ship’s bow), they turned to Mr. Prior and his students for support.
After measuring the stage and mapping out a plan, students got to work in the new Construction Technology Lab. They carefully cut and assembled the pieces to make sure everything was sturdy, safe and ready for performance. Once the build was complete, the finishing touches were added with paint to match the show’s creative vision.
The project gave construction students real-world, hands-on experience while also strengthening the connection between the technical and performing arts programs. Their work will play a key role in bringing the production to the stage.
